Ten Apocalypses review
Production company – Citeog Podcasts
Rating –
As you may remember, back in April last year, I gave the sepia tinged folk horror romp This House Will Devour You a rather good review. Imagine my joy then, to learn that production company Citeog Podcasts had a whole new series to enjoy. Of course, I immediately subscribed and whenever I had a spare half hour or so I’d have a listen. This though, turned into a two day binge as I just had to find out what was going to happen next.
So let’s examine this intriguing show shall we?
So what’s it about?
Ten Apocalypses is an anthology series that explores various terrifying, world ending scenarios. From nuclear war to ancient gods, there is something here for any gloomy taste. In fact, there are many imaginative ways that the writers conceive of wiping us off the face of the planet.
As the series continues, there are little breadcrumbs here and there. Things that, if you’re paying attention, make you make the “Lloyd Christmas face”.

I’m not going to go into a description of each episode, or even into the plot development. This would take at least a thousand words, and I don’t want to spoil the story at all. Needless to to say, things take a very clever turn. A very clever turn indeed. This is the reason for the score. I’ll be honest here. After the first few episodes, I wasn’t sold on this show at all. I didn’t feel it was as good as THWDY, but as you’ll know, I always give a show ten episodes before I decide. And as you’ll also know, I’ll admit when I was wrong.
Is it any good?
It’s a very well written show. You know that if you’ve listened to This House Will Devour You. Where it falls a bit flat though, is with the voice acting. In THWDY, the story was told through correspondence, so there was some understandable distancing of the emotions. Here though, a lot of the action takes place in the here and now (relatively speaking) and the voice acting falls short, particularly in the dramatic climaxes of many of the episodes.
Having said that, if the writing wasn’t so good, then I wouldn’t have scored this show so highly. Some of the scenarios created are highly original. It’s this ingenuity that sets this podcast apart from other anthology shows. It would be a shame if the show stayed within the well trodden areas of nuclear war/pandemics/asteroids impacts. Thankfully they have discovered many more (well, seven anyway) ways to end us.
Final thoughts
This is another great show from Citeog Podcasts. They have shown yet again that they are more than capable of writing a story full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. They have proved what is capable with a limited cast, but a headful of great ideas.
Despite my criticisms, I really encourage you to put the shortcomings to one side and listen to the story. You really won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to hear what’s next from them.
