The Know Rogan Experience review

Production company – Crosspond Productions

Rating – 4 brains

At the risk of sounding like Peter Kay, or any of the subsequent slew of northern “comedians”… Do you remember when you were young? Do you remember? When you were young? Remember when people would ask questions and get answers from people who knew what they were talking about. People with real qualifications. People who didn’t down to you, even if you were only young? Remember that?

How times have changed eh? Nowadays, you get told not to trust experts. You’re expected to put your stock in people who are trained to be engaging, and sound convincing. At the forefront of this regression is undoubtedly the most popular podcast in the world, The Joe Rogan Experience. It felt like a

So what’s it about?

As the intro blurb states, The Know Rogan Experience sees two guys with no prior knowledge of the big bald question asker and scrutinise both Rogan and his guests for any duplicity or chicanery. Surely, you say, the most listened to podcast on the planet would have very strict policies on the validity of information shared though wouldn’t it? Well. No. And that’s where this show comes in. They break down the interviews and take some very deep dives into claims made.

Now, the guys don’t do every episode. For a show as old (and prolific) as the JRE, that would truly be a sisyphean task. Rather, they pick the real humdingers. Illustrious guests such as Graham Hancock, Trevor Howard, Elon Musk and even Donald Trump get picked apart by the hosts.

Is it any good?

For smirking knowitalls like me, there is a lot to enjoy. The dissection of every little quote, the callbacks earlier (and usually contradictory) statements.

Hosts Michael Marshall and Cecil Cicirello do an admirable job of cutting through the nonsense, and it’s only as the shows develop you realise just how much deep research the guys actually do. The depth of research is understandable when you realise that Michael Marshall is the editor of The Skeptic magazine, and as such is more than capable of winkling out the truth.

This may have you worried that this is some highbrow, stuffy lecture, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, the episodes are impeccably researched, but the best way to treat pseudo intellectuals is to make fun of them. Particularly when you have the receipts to back up your derision. This is a genuinely funny show that offers real insight into the current trend for “alternative facts” and “fake news”.

Final thoughts

This show is the perfect antidote to the insanity we currently find ourselves in. In fact, if you add this to Knowledge Fight and Some Dare Call It Conspiracy, then you have the perfect bullshit vaccine. There is a real point being made here. Don’t believe everything you’re told, especially when qualified experts state otherwise. There is no grand conspiracy hiding the shape of the earth, or the history of mankind. If something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is.

I’ll leave you this week with some words from Alan Moore that I feel are particularly relevant to this: “The truth of the world is that it is actually chaotic. The truth is that it is not The Iluminati, or The Jewish Banking Conspiracy, or the Gray Alien Theory. The truth is far more frightening – Nobody is in control. The world is rudderless.”

Until next time dear readers.
