Podcastgeek awards 2025

Podcastgeek trophy

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a year it’s been eh? December seems to roll around quicker every year (at least for an old bugger like me). Technically, I guess it is because it’s November 30th, but I wont have time this week to post the awards on the actual anniversary of the blog, so you get it a few days early instead. I have to say, this year has been outstanding for quality shows, and the indie podcast scene is going from strength to strength. This is probably the first year I could have got away without reviewing a “big studio” production and not missed them.

As usual, each category has 5 nominees. You may notice a few changes in these categories this year, just because I haven’t really had enough to shortlist. Also, I have linked to my reviews of the shows (If I have reviewed them). But enough of all that though, this probably isn’t your first time here, so welcome to the entirely virtual fourth annual podcastgeek awards!

Let’s begin. Drumroll please!

Best Paranormal/Occult podcast

There are few podcasts that cover the range of weirdness that the winning show does. I’m still well over a hundred episodes behind, but I love hearing what they are investigating.

The winner is Strange Familiars!

Best True Crime podcast

I haven’t really been listening to much true crime this year, as I have been inundated with indie shows that don’t really have many podcasts in the true crime niche. There is one though that was so incredibly bizarre and infuriating that I added it to this list many months ago, as soon as I had got through the first few episodes. I actually can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it yet either, so I’ll have to remedy that ASAP, but ladies and gentlemen…

The winner is Kill List

Best Comedy podcast

I think the only category harder to judge than the horror category this year, is this one. You couldn’t fit a playing card between the shortlist here. There have been two very late additions to the list as well. Having said that, there can be only one winner

and that winner is Three Bean Salad

Best Conspiracy podcast

Originally, I didn’t rate this show very highly. Despite it not achieving that perfect five brain score though, this is a podcast that is absolutely worth digging into. If ever there was a show that makes you angry and depressed at the same time, then it’s this onePresented by the mysterious Concerned Citizen, and adding to another of his awards this year, that’s right,

the winner is Swindled

Best Sci-Fi / Horror podcast

This year has been amazing for audio drama (as I have said almost every week since about June). It was hard enough to pick only five shows for the shortlist, never mind a winner. There can be only one winner though, and I’ve had to pick the one show that has stayed with me since I first listened to it. Believe me, this one was a difficult decision, and any of these snows is worthy of a win but…

The winner is SPARKS

Best Music podcast

The winner this year is a podcast that when I discovered it, I got through the whole thing in no time, and it’s one that I will instantly drop everything to listen to. When it comes to research, the show is second to none, and the psychology is endlessly fascinating.

The winner is The Secret Life Of Songs

Best Voice Actor

  • Graham Rowat
  • Karim Kronfli
  • David Ault
  • Sarah Golding
  • Sean Renard

This is a category that changes very little from year to year, as the skill of the shortlisted actors is so high, although this year sees Sean “Quentin Smirhes” Renard make it for his various roles in Listen Through The Brown Window.

This year’s winner though is someone with such a distinctive voice, no matter what he’s doing, I will automatically enjoy the show just for his appearance. Whether he’s playing a sea slug with delusions of grandeur, or a ranting Alex Jones-alike on a car radio. That’s right ladies and gentlemen,

the winner is Graham Rowat

And there we have it ladies and gentlemen. That brings this ceremony to a close. I’m sure you’ll all agree that each and every winner is well deserved, and if you haven’t checked any of the shows out, then I suggest you do at the first possible opportunity. I actually can’t believe that this is my fourth year doing this. There aren’t many things I’ve had the patience to stick with for this long. I guess I’m a writer now! It’s been great talking to creators and fans, and somehow I now seem to be a part of the indie podcast scene, something I am truly grateful for. Normal service will resume next week with a review of a very funny podcast indeed, one that made the comedy shortlist this year actually. In fact, if I hadn’t got my dates mixed up, you would be reading that instead of this today.

But thank you all again for reading this, and I will see you next time.
